It's Lower Body Day

How to Practice Self-Care During Changing Times

There’s more to your well-being than just exercising and focusing on healthy meals. Taking a global approach to your health— nourishing your mind, body, and soul—is crucial for your overall health. We like to call this self-care. Here are a couple of our favorite practices for self-care.

Stay Connected

We may be observing social distancing, but that doesn’t mean we can’t connect with others! Set up a virtual coffee date or happy hour with your friends or family. Keep topics cheerful and tell each other a good thing that happened to you lately. Brainstorm plans for when you can meet again and how awesome it will be to give them a huge, warm hug. Together we are more capable and can care for each other. That’s what friends are supposed to do!

Follow a Flexible Routine

Craft an agenda for your day but allow for some flexibility. For instance, get up around the same time in the morning and head to bed around the same time every evening. Draft your intentions for the day and plan out your work projects, but give yourself some time for your daily workout, a walk outside, or to turn to your favorite book. Don’t be too strict with your schedule that you create extra stress. Maintaining a balance between routine and relaxation will help you have a more constructive and gratifying day.

Practice Gratitude

Thankfulness is good for all people. The more gratitude we display to others during hard times, the more cheerful and stronger we become. Offer others grace. One of our favorite ways to offer gratitude is to call a loved one and let them know how much you cherish them. A a nice note is also a welcome and wonderful surprise that is guaranteed to make someone’s day.

Get Outside

There is nothing better than spending time outside, basking in the fresh air. Take a break and walk with your dog every day after lunch. Say hello to your neighbors (from a safe distance) and ask them how they’re feeling. Stand in the sunlight for for some time and focus on taking deep breaths—you will feel so much better!

Find Joy

Just because we can’t go out to dinner at our local favorites doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy our meals! Create a new dish for dinner and make your meals feel special. Listen to your favorite song, get the kiddos in on it, and have a fun time with it!

A Self-Care Staycation

Your outlook on life affects your daily life and affects your actions. And during these uncertain times, it’s even more vital to take care of ourselves and our loved ones. Let’s take this opportunity to create healthy routines and emerge from this quarantine healthier and happier!
